i’ll mark off each day with a cross…

Posted by Nicky on Saturday Dec 15, 2007 Under wtf?

While I have yet to establish the structure/design/momentum for this website, I can still blabber away here. Well at least for a little while.

I’m still playing catchup on blogs and sites that I used to read daily (hurray for rss feed readers, and big fat “huzzah!” for the “mark all read” feature when it tells you you have 900+ unread entries…) and so it was only a few minutes ago that I read Lis’ not-quite-bah-numbug entry about the impending festivities. I even commented! Go me!

Despite having worked somewhere which has been preparing for Christmas since the beginning of October (oh the joys of retail..) I have yet to buy a Christmas card (I keep saying I’ll make them..) and have only purchased my niece’s present and something small for Boy. I was kind of distracted from buying any more after we found out last week that my brother will be spending this Christmas on a warship in the Gulf. There’s so much stuff I want to say to him, but I can’t seem to do so. He flies out on Tuesday and I won’t even be able to hug him before he goes. And I want to.

It’s funny how important such seemingly little things can be, isn’t it?

I guess the other reason that I can’t get my head around it being only 10 days until Christmas is that we haven’t really got anywhere to put up decorations (our living room is still not finished yet, although our woodburner was installed this week!) and the fact that I don’t get a Christmas holiday! It’s amazing how quickly you lose track of time when you don’t have Christmas/Easter/Summer/Half-term holidays to mark the passage of time through the year. Now public holidays seem to pop up out of the blue and booked holidays come much faster – and with a much shorter period of excited anticipation – than ever before.

Or maybe time just seems to move faster the older you get…?

Crap, it’s nearly 1am and I start work in 5 hours. Is there any point going to bed…?
